Why use DNS Lookup?

DNS Lookup answers a simple question: what does the domain name system currently return for a given domain and record type? You enter a domain such as example.com in the Domain Name field, choose a type from the Record Type dropdown, and click Lookup. Behind the scenes the request goes to a server route that uses the dns2 library to query Google's public resolver at 8.8.8.8 with recursion enabled. Because the work happens server-side rather than in the browser, the answers reflect a real recursive resolution rather than whatever your local machine has cached. The results are formatted to be read quickly. First you get a count, such as "3 A Records for example.com," then one card per answer in a monospace font. Each card shows the record value in the accent color, the TTL in seconds so you can see how long the record will stay cached, and, for MX records, the priority number that determines which mail server is preferred. When a record type has no entries, the tool shows a clear No records found message instead of a confusing empty screen, and any resolution failure surfaces as an inline error rather than a silent hang. The scope is deliberately focused. Each request handles one domain and one record type, across the seven types the dropdown exposes: A, AAAA, MX, TXT, NS, CNAME, and SOA. There is no batch mode, no file upload, and no history. Frequently asked questions

Which DNS record types can I look up?

Seven types are available in the dropdown: A, AAAA, MX, TXT, NS, CNAME, and SOA. You select one type per lookup, so run separate queries to inspect different record types for the same domain.

Where do the results come from?

The lookup runs on the server, which queries Google's public resolver at 8.8.8.8 recursively using the dns2 library. It returns whatever that resolver currently reports for the domain and type you chose.

Why does it say No records found?

That message appears when the resolver returns zero answers for the specific record type you selected. A domain may have A records but no MX or CNAME entries, for example, so try a different record type.

What do the TTL and priority values mean?

TTL is the time-to-live in seconds, which tells resolvers how long to cache the record before checking again. Priority appears on MX records and indicates which mail server is preferred, with lower numbers taking precedence.

Is looking up a domain safe and private?

DNS records are public information published by domain owners, so checking them is a normal diagnostic task. The domain you enter is sent to the server only to run the query and fetch the answer, and the route does not write it to any database.

Can I look up several domains at once?

No. The tool resolves one domain and one record type per request. For multiple domains or types, submit each query on its own.
