Hourly to Salary Calculator

This free Hourly to Salary Calculator converts pay entered per hour, day, week, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, month, quarter or year into all eight periods at once, using your own hours and days per week. A second column shows the same pay with unpaid holidays and vacation days removed; all figures are gross, before tax.

Convert Hourly Pay to an Annual Salary

The Tools Kit's free Hourly to Salary Calculator turns an hourly wage into yearly, monthly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, weekly and daily pay in one step. Enter what you earn per hour, or per day, week, paycheck, month, quarter or year, and every other period is filled in from the hours and days you actually work. It answers the questions people ask when weighing a job offer: how much is my hourly wage per year, what is that per month, and what does it come to if my days off are unpaid.

Annual salary = hourly rate × hours per week × 52. At a standard 40-hour week that is 2,080 hours, so $25 an hour is $52,000 a year before tax.

How to Use the Hourly to Salary Calculator

  1. 1

Enter your pay and its period

Type the amount into Salary amount and pick the period it covers: Hour, Day, Week, Bi-weekly, Semi-monthly, Month, Quarter or Year.

  2. 2

Set your hours and days per week

Enter how many hours and how many days you work each week. The defaults are 40 hours over 5 days; change them for part-time or compressed schedules.

  3. 3

Enter unpaid holidays and vacation days

Holidays per year defaults to 10 and vacation days to 15. These only affect the adjusted column, which treats those days as unpaid. Set both to 0 if your time off is paid.

  4. 4

    Read both result columns

The table shows hourly, daily, weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, monthly, quarterly and annual pay, first unadjusted and then with the unpaid days removed.

Type the amount as a plain number, such as 1500 rather than $1,500. The calculation runs in your browser as you type, with no account needed.

Pay Period Conversion Formulas

Whatever period you start from, the calculator first converts it to an annual figure, then divides that year back into every other period. These are the multipliers it uses:

You enter pay perAnnual salary
HourRate × hours per week × 52
DayRate × days per week × 52
WeekAmount × 52
Bi-weeklyAmount × 26
Semi-monthlyAmount × 24
MonthAmount × 12
QuarterAmount × 4

Going back down, the hourly rate is the annual figure divided by hours per week × 52, the daily rate is annual divided by days per week × 52, and monthly pay is annual divided by 12. A $2,000 bi-weekly paycheck is $52,000 a year, which is $25 an hour at 40 hours a week. Because monthly pay divides the year by 12 rather than counting four weeks, $52,000 is $4,333.33 a month, not $4,000. If you only know your salary, the dedicated salary to hourly calculator runs the same conversion in the other direction.

Salary With Unpaid Holidays and Vacation Days

Many hourly jobs pay nothing for days you do not work, which is why an hourly rate can overstate yearly income. The second results column handles this. It counts your working days (days per week × 52), subtracts the holidays and vacation days you entered, and scales the annual salary by the days that remain.

With the defaults, a 5-day week has 260 working days. Removing 10 holidays and 15 vacation days leaves 235, so $25 an hour drops from $52,000 to $47,000 a year: $3,916.67 a month or $1,807.69 every two weeks. The adjusted Hourly row reads $22.60, which is that $47,000 spread across all 2,080 hours of a full-time year. Treat it as your effective average rate, not a pay cut. If you need to count the exact business days in a stretch of time off, the days calculator can do that.

Part-Time, Compressed and Overtime Schedules

Annual pay scales in a straight line with weekly hours, so changing hours per week is all it takes to model part-time work. At 25 hours a week, $20 an hour is $26,000 a year. For an hourly rate, days per week does not change the unadjusted annual figure, only the daily figure and the number of working days the adjusted column counts: a nurse working three 12-hour shifts at $30 an hour earns $56,160 a year, $1,080 a week, and $360 per shift day.

The calculator pays every hour at the same rate. If some of your hours are overtime at time and a half, work them out with the overtime calculator, and if your hours change week to week, total them from your clock-in and clock-out times with the time card calculator first.

Gross Salary vs Take-Home Pay

Every figure here is gross pay, before income tax, Social Security, Medicare and any benefit deductions, and results are shown in US dollars. To estimate what lands in your bank account, take the annual figure to the paycheck calculator for US federal, FICA and state tax. The same arithmetic works for any currency, so you can also enter pounds or Canadian dollars and read the numbers without the dollar sign, then use the UK take-home pay calculator or the Canada income tax calculator for local tax.

Comparing an offer against your current pay? The percentage calculator shows the percent change between two salaries, so you can see whether a raise from $22 to $25 an hour is really a 13.6% increase.

Worked example: $25 an hour is $52,000 a year

  1. 1

Count the hours in a working year

40 hours a week times 52 weeks is 2,080 hours. This is the standard payroll year, and it already includes paid holiday and vacation, because paid time off is paid.

  2. 2

    Multiply by the hourly rate

2,080 hours times $25 an hour is $52,000 a year, before tax.

  3. 3

    Split it by pay period

That same $52,000 is $4,333.33 a month, $2,000 every two weeks, $1,000 a week, or $200 for an eight-hour day.

If your time off is unpaid, drop those weeks from the 52 before multiplying. Two unpaid weeks makes it 2,000 hours, so the same $25 rate becomes $50,000 a year. The method does not change, only the hour count.

How to calculate your hourly wage from a salary

Going the other direction, divide the annual salary by the hours worked in a year. Full-time at 40 hours a week is 2,080 hours, so a $52,000 salary is $25 an hour. Part-time hours or unpaid weeks change the divisor, not the method.

How do you convert an hourly rate to an annual salary?

To convert hourly pay to an annual salary, multiply the hourly rate by hours worked per week, then by 52 weeks. At 40 hours a week, $20 an hour is $41,600 a year - and 40 × 52 = 2,080, so any full-time hourly rate times 2,080 gives the annual figure.

How do you calculate your hourly wage from a salary?

To find an hourly wage from a salary, divide the annual salary by the hours worked in a year. Full-time at 40 hours a week is 2,080 hours, so a $52,000 salary works out to $25 an hour. Part-time or overtime schedules change the divisor, not the method.
