Adjusted figures assume 25 unpaid holiday and vacation days (235 paid workdays of 260 per year).
Worked example: $52,000 a year is $25.00 an hour
- 1
Count the hours in a working year
40 hours a week times 52 weeks is 2,080 hours. That is the standard payroll year, and it is the divisor for a full-time salary.
- 2
Divide the salary by those hours
$52,000 divided by 2,080 hours is $25.00 an hour, before tax.
- 3
Check it against your pay periods
The same salary is $4,333.33 a month, $2,000 every two weeks, or $1,000 a week.
If you work more than 40 hours for the same salary, the effective rate falls: at 50 hours a week the same $52,000 works out at $20.00 an hour. This is the comparison worth making against an hourly offer, because a salaried role does not pay overtime for those extra hours.

How do you convert an annual salary to an hourly rate?
To convert a salary to an hourly rate, divide the annual salary by the hours worked in a year - 2,080 for full-time at 40 hours a week. A $65,000 salary is $31.25 an hour. Dividing by 12 gives the monthly figure, and by 26 the biweekly one.
