Frequently asked questions

Are these PDF tools really free?

Yes, and there is no signup, no watermark, and no daily limit. Because most of the work happens in your browser rather than on a server, there is no per-file cost to pass on to you.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

For the browser-based tools — merging, splitting, compressing, deleting pages, signing, rotating, cropping — no. The file is read and rewritten locally and never leaves your device. A few conversions that need server libraries do send the file, and those pages say so.

Is there a file size limit?

The browser tools are limited only by your device’s memory, which in practice is far more generous than the 10–25 MB caps typical of upload-based services. The server-backed conversions cap uploads at about 25 MB.

Can I edit the text inside a PDF directly?

Not in place — PDF is a layout format, not a document format. Convert to Word to edit the wording, or to Markdown or plain text if you only need the content. To change what is on the page without touching the text, use the watermark, page number, or signature tools.

Will converting to Word keep my formatting?

Structure and text come across reliably. Complex multi-column layouts, unusual fonts, and heavily designed pages will shift, because Word has to rebuild the layout with its own engine. For a scanned PDF there is no text layer to extract at all — you need OCR first.
