Why use Favicon Generator?

The Favicon Generator takes one source image and downscales it into a set of PNG favicons without leaving the browser. When you press Generate Favicons, the code loads your file into an Image element from a local object URL, then draws it onto a hidden canvas six times, once for each size in the fixed list of 16, 32, 48, 64, 128, and 256 pixels. Every render is read back as a PNG through the canvas toDataURL method and shown in a preview grid where each icon carries its exact pixel dimensions. Since the resizing happens on the canvas in your own browser, the image you select is never handed off to a server. Producing the output is quick. You feed in an image through the panel that reads 'Click or drag an image here', and the file field accepts any image type the browser can decode. The interface notes that square images work best, which matters because each favicon is drawn into a square frame and a non-square source will be stretched to fill it. Once the previews appear, you save sizes one by one with the Download button under each icon; filenames follow the favicon-64x64.png pattern so they sort cleanly. How to use Favicon Generator

Select an image
Use the panel labeled 'Click or drag an image here' to pick a file, either by clicking to browse or dropping an image onto it. The accept setting is image/*, so any format the browser can decode works, and a note reminds you that square images work best.

Generate the sizes
Press Generate Favicons. The tool draws your image onto a canvas at 16, 32, 48, 64, 128, and 256 pixels and displays a preview grid where each icon is stamped with its pixel dimensions.

Download the sizes you need
Below each preview, press Download to save that size as a PNG named favicon-16x16.png through favicon-256x256.png. Save as many as you want, then press Clear to drop the current image and load a different one.

Start over with a new image
Click the upload panel again or drop in a different file, and the panel clears the previous preview grid automatically before generating a new set, or press Clear to remove the current image without loading another one.

Frequently asked questions

What sizes does it generate?

Every run produces six PNGs from your image: 16x16, 32x32, 48x48, 64x64, 128x128, and 256x256 pixels. These sizes are hard-coded and cannot be changed in the tool.

Does it export an .ico file?

No. Output is PNG only, one file per size, named favicon-16x16.png through favicon-256x256.png. If you specifically need a single .ico, combine the PNGs with a separate converter afterward.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read locally with URL.createObjectURL and redrawn on a hidden canvas in your browser. Nothing is transmitted, and nothing is stored on a server.

Can I grab all sizes in one download?

Not as a bundle. Each preview has its own Download button, so you save the sizes individually. There is no ZIP or batch export.

Why does it recommend square images?

Each favicon is drawn into a square canvas at the target size. A non-square source gets squeezed into that square, so a square starting image keeps the icon from looking distorted.

Can I process several images at once?

No. It handles one image per session. Picking a new file or pressing Clear wipes the previous previews so you can start fresh with a different image.
