Why use ASCII Converter?

Every character your computer stores is a number. ASCII assigned the first 128 of them, covering the English alphabet, digits, and basic punctuation. Unicode extended that idea to cover essentially every writing system in use, and each character now has a code point that identifies it. This converter shows the same code point three ways. Hexadecimal is the compact form you will see in documentation and debuggers, binary shows the actual bit pattern, and decimal is often the easiest to read when you just want to know which character you are looking at. The practical use is usually diagnostic. When a string looks right but behaves wrong, encoding it exposes what is really there: a non breaking space that looks identical to a normal one, a curly quote where a straight quote was expected, or a zero width character pasted in from a web page. Once you can see the codes, the culprit is usually obvious.

Frequently asked questions

Is this limited to real ASCII?

No, despite the name. Encoding reads the Unicode code point of each character, so anything you can type is converted, including accented letters, Chinese and Arabic script, and emoji. True ASCII only covers the first 128 code points.

What format should hex or binary input be in?

Values separated by spaces, one per character. Hex looks like 48 65 6c 6c 6f and binary like 01001000 01100101. Run the encoder once to see the exact shape the decoder expects.

Why is the binary always eight digits per character?

Each value is padded to eight bits so the output has a consistent column width and can be split back apart reliably. Characters above code point 255 will exceed eight digits, since the padding sets a minimum rather than a maximum.

Why did an emoji not decode back correctly?

Many emoji are made of several code points joined together, such as a base character plus a skin tone modifier. Each part converts individually and correctly, but if you drop or reorder any of them when pasting back, the sequence will not rebuild into the same emoji.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. All four conversions are plain JavaScript running in the page, and nothing you type is sent to a server.
