Why use EXIF Remover?

Photos from phones and cameras carry EXIF metadata: camera make and model, exposure settings, and sometimes the GPS coordinates showing exactly where a photo was taken. This tool reads that metadata with a browser side EXIF parser and displays camera make, model, orientation, date taken, exposure time, f number, ISO, focal length, and pixel dimensions whenever they are present. If a photo carries none of these tags, an already stripped screenshot or a plain PNG for example, it says so instead of showing an empty table. Removing the data works by drawing the photo onto an HTML canvas and re encoding it as a JPEG at 95 percent quality. A canvas only ever holds pixel data, so none of the original file's metadata, including GPS, survives that round trip. The download is a fresh JPEG named with a no-exif_ prefix, so you can tell it apart from the original file and keep both if you want to compare them side by side.

Frequently asked questions

Does this remove GPS location data?

Yes. Re-encoding the image through the canvas strips all embedded metadata, including any GPS coordinates.

Why does my image show no EXIF data?

Some images, especially ones already processed, screenshots, or PNGs, do not contain EXIF metadata to begin with.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No, and that matters more here than on most tools: EXIF data can contain the GPS coordinates where a photo was taken. The metadata is read and stripped inside your browser, so those coordinates are never transmitted.

Does removing EXIF change the image quality?

The photo is re-encoded as a JPEG at 95 percent quality when the metadata is stripped, so there is a small amount of recompression. It is not a lossless copy with the tags simply deleted.

What file type do I get back?

A JPEG, regardless of what you uploaded. The canvas re-encoding step always outputs image/jpeg, so a PNG or WebP upload will come back as a .jpg file.
