Runs in your browser. Your files and text never leave your device - nothing is uploaded.
Draws or renders entirely in your browser - nothing is uploaded. For legally binding electronic signatures, use a dedicated e-signature service that provides an audit trail; this is best suited for casual use like signing a personal document or adding a signature to an image.
Free Online Signature Generator
The Tools Kit's free Signature Generator is a simple signature maker for creating a signature image in seconds. Draw your signature by hand with a mouse, trackpad, stylus, or finger, or type your name and let the tool render it in a cursive style. Either way, you download a 600 by 200 pixel PNG with a transparent background, ready to place on a letter, form, or image.
Everything is drawn and rendered in your browser. Your signature and name are never uploaded, there is no account to create, and you can make as many versions as you like.
How to Create Your Signature
- 1
Choose draw or type
Use the Mode menu to pick "Draw with mouse/touch" for a handwritten signature, or "Type a name" to turn typed text into a cursive-style signature.
- 2
Create your signature
In draw mode, sign on the 600 by 200 pixel pad with a mouse, trackpad, stylus, or finger, and press Clear to start over. In type mode, enter your name and pick Elegant Script, Classic Cursive, or Italic Serif.
- 3
Pick an ink color
Use the color picker to set the ink. The default is a near-black navy; black or dark blue are the usual choices for signing documents.
- 4
Download the PNG
Click Download PNG to save signature.png, a 600 by 200 pixel image with a transparent background that you can place on a document, form, or image.
Draw a Signature or Type One in Cursive
Draw mode works like signing on a pad. The ink is a fixed 2.5-pixel line with rounded ends, so the result looks like a smooth pen stroke. There is no undo or pen pressure, so if a stroke goes wrong, press Clear and sign again. Signing slowly and a little larger than you would on paper usually gives the cleanest result. The pad is 600 pixels wide; on a narrow phone screen it is shown scaled down, so turning the phone to landscape or using a tablet or computer keeps strokes exactly under your finger or cursor.
Type mode is a typed signature generator for when you want something that looks handwritten without drawing it. Enter your name and choose one of three styles: Elegant Script, which uses Brush Script MT where it is installed; Classic Cursive, your browser's built-in cursive font; or Italic Serif. The preview updates as you type, and the download draws your name at 56 pixels, centered on the image. Because these are fonts on your own device, the same style can look slightly different on Windows, macOS, or Android. Long names are not shrunk to fit, so use initials or a shorter form if the edges are cut off. If you want a stylized name to paste as text rather than an image, for a bio or username, the Fancy Text Generator produces cursive Unicode characters instead.
Why a Transparent PNG Signature Works Best
A signature with a white background shows up as a white rectangle when you place it on a colored, lined, or scanned page. The PNG from this tool keeps only the ink and leaves the background see-through, so the signature blends into whatever it sits on. The white box on screen is just the drawing area; it is not saved in the file.
Some upload forms accept only JPG files. JPG cannot store transparency, so converting with the PNG to JPG converter fills the background with white; that is fine for a white form but not for a colored one. The image is 600 by 200 pixels with the signature in the middle, so if you want a tight fit around the ink, trim the empty space with the Image Cropper before inserting it.
Already have a signature on paper? Photograph it on plain white paper in good light; the Background Remover can help strip the paper so the ink can be used in the same way.
Is a Signature Image Legally Binding?
A signature image is a visual mark, not proof of identity. In the US, the ESIGN Act and UETA, and in the EU, the eIDAS regulation, generally accept electronic signatures, but what gives a signature weight is evidence of intent and a reliable record of who signed. A PNG pasted into a file carries neither on its own and can be copied by anyone who receives it.
That makes this tool a good fit for personal letters, internal paperwork, and forms that simply ask you to attach a signature image. For contracts, leases, or anything you may need to enforce, use a dedicated e-signature service that verifies identity and keeps an audit trail. Treat your signature file like any personal document and share it only with people you trust.

Signature terms explained
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Transparent PNG | A PNG image whose background pixels are see-through, so only the ink shows when you place it over a page |
| Wet signature | A signature written by hand in ink on paper |
| Electronic signature (e-signature) | Any electronic sign of intent to agree, from a typed name or a pasted signature image to a click-to-sign workflow |
| Digital signature | A certificate-based cryptographic seal that proves who signed and shows whether the document changed afterward; an image alone is not one |
| Audit trail | A record an e-signature service keeps of who signed, when, and from where, used as evidence if a signature is disputed |
| Typed signature | Your name rendered in a script or cursive font so it looks handwritten |
Frequently Asked Questions
Choose "Draw with mouse/touch" and sign on the pad, or choose "Type a name" and pick a cursive style. Set the ink color, then click Download PNG. The signature generator is free, needs no account, and runs entirely in your browser.
Both modes download a PNG with a transparent background. The white box you see on screen is only the display area; it is not saved in the file, so the signature sits cleanly over a document or colored background.
Yes. Switch the Mode menu to "Type a name", enter your name, and choose Elegant Script, Classic Cursive, or Italic Serif. The download renders your name in that style at 56 pixels, centered on a 600 by 200 pixel transparent image.
Yes, the pad accepts touch as well as mouse input. The canvas is 600 pixels wide, so on a narrow phone screen it is shown scaled down and strokes can land slightly off from your finger; turning the phone to landscape or using a tablet or computer gives the most accurate result.
The image itself does not make a document binding. Laws such as the US ESIGN Act and the EU eIDAS regulation focus on intent to sign and a reliable record of who signed. A signature image is fine for letters, personal forms, and informal documents, but for contracts use an e-signature service that keeps an audit trail.
No. Drawing, rendering, and the PNG download all happen in your browser. The tool does not send your signature or name to a server, and nothing is saved after you close the page.
Every download is a 600 by 200 pixel PNG named signature.png. In type mode the name is not shrunk to fit, so a very long name can be clipped at the edges; shorten it or use initials if that happens.
Yes. Both modes have a color picker. In draw mode a new color applies to the strokes you draw next, so earlier strokes keep their original color unless you press Clear and sign again.
There is no undo. Press Clear to wipe the pad and sign again. Switching to type mode and back also clears the drawing, so download it before changing modes.
The styles use fonts installed on your device. Elegant Script asks for Brush Script MT and falls back to your browser's default cursive font if it is not installed, so the same name can look different on Windows, macOS, Android, or Linux.
Download the PNG and place it with any PDF editor that accepts images, or use the separate Sign PDF tool, which lets you draw or type a signature and stamp it onto a chosen page and position of your PDF in the browser.

How do you create a signature image with a transparent background?
To create a signature image, either draw with a mouse or finger on the 600 by 200 pixel canvas, or type a name and choose one of three cursive styles and an ink colour. Download PNG saves the result with a transparent background, so it can sit over a document. Everything renders in the browser; nothing is uploaded.
Is a generated signature legally binding?
A signature image on its own is not what makes a document binding; laws like the US ESIGN Act and the EU eIDAS regulation care about intent and a reliable record of who signed. For contracts, use an e-signature service that keeps an audit trail. A downloaded PNG is fine for letters, forms, and personal documents.
