Unscramble Letters Into Words
The Tools Kit’s free Word Unscrambler turns a jumble of letters into every real word they can spell. Type the tiles from your Scrabble or Words With Friends rack, the letters from a jumble or crossword clue, or any scrambled word, and the matching words appear as you type, grouped by length with the longest first.
It works as both a word finder and an anagram solver. In the default mode it lists every word that uses some or all of your letters; switch to exact anagrams and it shows only the words that use every letter you typed. The search checks a list of 115,411 English words of 3 to 8 letters, and it all runs in your browser.
How to Use the Word Unscrambler

Enter the scrambled letters or the tiles on your rack in the Letters box. Upper or lower case both work, and spaces, numbers and symbols are ignored.

Leave "All words (any length)" selected to find every word your letters can make, or pick "Exact anagrams only (all letters)" to see only words that use every letter.

Words appear as you type, with a total count and groups by length from longest to shortest, sorted alphabetically within each group.

Word Finder vs. Anagram Solver
An anagram rearranges every letter of a word into another word: listen becomes silent, tinsel or enlist. A word finder goes further and also returns the shorter words hidden inside the letters, such as inlet, tiles and lens. The two modes in the Show menu map directly onto these two jobs:
- All words (any length): every word of 3 or more letters that can be built from any subset of your letters. For listen that is 106 words.
- Exact anagrams only (all letters): only words whose length equals the number of letters you typed. For listen that is seven words: elints, enlist, inlets, intels, listen, silent and tinsel.
A short example shows the idea: tca unscrambles to act and cat, and aelpp gives the exact anagrams appel, apple and pepla. Repeated letters count as separate tiles, so balloon can make ball and loon but never a word with three Ls. If you want fresh letter sets to practice with, the random word generator can supply words to scramble and solve.
Using It as a Scrabble and Words With Friends Helper
In Scrabble and Words With Friends you rarely play all seven tiles, so “All words” mode is the useful one: it surfaces every playable length at once, and the longest words sit at the top where they are easy to spot. From there you can weigh which word fits the board and lands on the best bonus squares.
A few limits are worth knowing before you rely on it in a game:
- 3 to 8 letters only. Two-letter words such as qi and za, which matter a lot in Scrabble, are not in the list, and nothing longer than 8 letters is returned.
- No blank tiles. Wildcards like “?” are stripped from the input, so test a blank by trying likely letters one at a time.
- General dictionary. The list comes from the open-source word-list package, not the official tournament or Words With Friends dictionaries, so confirm an unusual word in the game before playing it.
- No scores. Words are ranked by length, not by tile points.
Solving Jumbles, Anagram Puzzles and Word Games
Newspaper jumbles, cryptic crossword anagram clues and word-scramble games all hand you a fixed set of letters and ask for the one word that uses them all. Pick “Exact anagrams only” and type the letters to see every candidate. If the answer runs to several words or more than 8 letters, it will not appear here, since the list holds single words of up to 8 letters.
Some puzzles hide a word written backwards rather than scrambled; for those, the reverse text tool flips the letters instantly. Clues and game answers often arrive in mixed capitals, and the unscrambler ignores case, but if you need to tidy a word list for a puzzle sheet the case converter will normalize it.
