Why use Words to Number?

Words to Number is a small, focused converter that reverses the usual spelling-out of numbers. You type a number the way it is written in words, for example "two hundred and five" or "forty-two thousand", and it returns the numeric value. The parser lowercases your input, treats hyphens as spaces, and skips the connector "and", so natural phrasings work without extra formatting. Under the hood it reads a fixed dictionary: zero through nineteen, the round tens up to ninety, and the scale words hundred, thousand, million, and billion. Multiplier words combine as you would expect, so "one hundred thousand" resolves to 100,000. The interface is deliberately simple. There is one field labeled "Enter Number Words" with the placeholder "e.g. forty-two thousand", a Convert button that stays disabled until you type something, and after a successful conversion a Clear button to reset. The result appears in large digits formatted with thousands separators, and a Copy Number button places the plain value on your clipboard with the commas stripped, so it is ready to paste straight into a spreadsheet cell or a line of code. Because every keystroke is parsed by JavaScript in the page itself, nothing you type is uploaded and no result is saved. The scope is intentionally narrow: whole positive numbers only, with no support for decimals, fractions, negatives, ordinals, or scales beyond billion. Frequently asked questions

What number words does it understand?

It recognizes zero through nineteen, the tens (twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, sixty, seventy, eighty, ninety), and the scale words hundred, thousand, million, and billion. It also ignores the word "and" and treats hyphens as spaces, so "one hundred and forty-two thousand" parses correctly.

Can it convert decimals, fractions, or negative numbers?

No. It handles whole positive numbers only. Words like "point", "half", "minus", or "trillion" are not in its dictionary and will produce an error naming the word it did not recognize.

Why do I see an "Unknown word" error?

Every word you enter must be a supported number word. If you include a typo, a currency name, ordinals like "first", or a scale beyond billion, the tool stops and shows which specific word it could not read so you can fix it.

Does the copied value include the commas?

No. The on-screen result shows commas as thousands separators for readability, but the Copy Number button copies the plain digits with the commas removed, ready to paste into a spreadsheet or code.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion is done by JavaScript in your own browser, so the words you type never leave your device and nothing is stored.

Does it matter if I use capital letters?

No. Parsing is case-insensitive, so "Forty-Two Thousand" and "forty-two thousand" give the same result.
