Why use Blur / Pixelate Image?

This tool lets you drag select one or more rectangular regions on an uploaded image and apply a blur or pixelate effect to just those areas, entirely with the canvas API in your browser. Pixelate works by downscaling the selected region into a tiny canvas sized to the region divided by the intensity value, then drawing that tiny canvas back over the original area with image smoothing turned off, the blocky upscale is what produces the pixelation. Blur instead applies a CSS canvas blur filter over the region, expanded slightly on each side so the effect does not leave a sharp, visible edge. Every region you draw is stored and reapplied on top of the original image each time you add another one, so you can cover a face, a license plate, and a document number in the same pass. Undo All Regions clears every selection and starts over from the unedited image. Nothing is uploaded at any point; the finished image is exported straight from the canvas as a PNG.

Frequently asked questions

Can I undo a single region?

Use Undo All Regions to clear every selected region and start over; individual-region undo is not available in this version.

Which effect should I use, blur or pixelate?

Both obscure the selected area; pixelate gives a blocky, clearly-edited look while blur is softer, so pick whichever suits your image.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No, which is the point for a redaction tool: the unblurred original never leaves your device. The blur or pixelation is applied on a canvas in your browser and only the edited copy is downloaded.

What image formats are supported?

JPG, PNG, and WebP are accepted for upload. The edited image is always downloaded as a PNG regardless of the original format.

Can I move or resize a region after drawing it?

No. Once a region is drawn it is fixed; if you want to adjust it, use Undo All Regions and redraw your selections.
