That makes it the natural choice when a PDF page is mostly small type, tables, charts, code listings or technical drawings, the kind of content where lossy compression leaves faint smudges around every letter. Picking a render size for crisp text and line art
Since PNG adds no compression loss, the only real quality decision is how many pixels each page gets. Standard uses double the PDF's base size, close to 144 DPI, which renders an A4 page at about 1191 by 1684 pixels. That is sharp on most monitors and fine for documentation or slides. High triples it, close to 216 DPI, for about 1786 by 2526 pixels: the better pick when you will crop a detail out of a schematic, enlarge a chart, or print the image.
Higher resolution does mean heavier PNGs, and on scanned pages the difference is dramatic. For plain digital documents with white margins and black text, PNG compresses surprisingly well, so High is usually affordable.
A note on transparency
PNG can store transparent areas, but this converter does not produce them. Each page is painted onto an opaque white canvas, mirroring how it looks on screen and in print. If you need a single logo or diagram floating on a clear background, convert the page, trim it down with the Image Cropper, and then knock out the white in an image editor.
Editing, reusing and publishing your PNGs
Lossless files are ideal for editing because you can open, annotate and save them repeatedly without the quality drifting downward. Mark up a page, highlight a clause, then gather the edited pages back into a document with Image to PDF.
When the images are headed for a website, size starts to matter more than perfection. Run them through PNG to WebP for a lighter file that still looks clean, or use PNG to JPG for a page that turned out to be mostly photographs.

The PDF is decoded by pdf.js inside the browser and each PNG is generated on your machine. That suits confidential material such as unreleased designs, legal drafts and internal reports, which never pass through a third-party server.
