Why use Text Compare?

Text Compare is a line-oriented diff tool. When you click Compare Texts, it splits both inputs on newlines and walks them position by position: line 1 of Text A against line 1 of Text B, line 2 against line 2, and so on up to the length of the longer text. Any pair that does not match exactly is flagged, and the tool tallies the total. The header of the result tells you at a glance whether the two texts are identical or how many lines differ, using a simple count rather than a percentage or score. The result itself is a monospace grid with three columns per row: the line number, the corresponding line from Text A, and the corresponding line from Text B. Rows that differ are highlighted so your eye lands on them immediately, while matching lines stay plain. Because matching is character-exact, the tool surfaces the small stuff that is hard to catch manually, such as a double space, a changed comma, or a lowercase word that should be capitalized. If the two texts have unequal line counts, the shorter side simply shows blank cells against the longer one, and those rows register as differences. Everything happens in the browser. There is no file upload, no batch mode, and no external service, so the tool handles one pair of pasted texts at a time and keeps that text on your machine. The Clear button wipes both boxes and hides the result, which is the quickest way to reset before comparing a new pair. How to use Text Compare

Paste the original into Text A
In the left box labeled Text A (Original), paste the version you want to treat as the baseline.

Press the Compare Texts button. It stays disabled until both boxes contain text, so fill in each side first.

Frequently asked questions

How does the comparison work?

The tool splits both texts on line breaks and compares them line by line at the same position. If line 3 of Text A does not exactly match line 3 of Text B, that line is marked as a difference.

Is my text uploaded to a server?

No. The comparison runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript, so whatever you paste into the two boxes stays on your device and is never sent anywhere.

Why is the Compare Texts button greyed out?

The button stays disabled until both Text A and Text B contain something. Paste text into each box and it becomes clickable.

Does it highlight the exact words that changed?

It works at the line level. Changed lines are highlighted and shown side by side so you can read both versions, but it does not underline individual differing words within a line.

Does it detect spacing and capitalization differences?

Yes. Matching is character-exact, so a difference in spacing, punctuation, or capitalization on a line will flag that line as changed.

What happens if the two texts have a different number of lines?

The tool compares up to the longer of the two. Where one side runs out of lines, that side shows as empty against the other, and those rows are counted as differences.
